Position Overview Tidewise is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Naval Architect or Production Engineer to support the Head of Hardware in managing the delivery of solutions. This role is crucial for tracking the team’s progress, assigning the right people to the right tasks, and ensuring that each solution strikes the right trade-off between quality and development time. The ideal candidate will oversee project execution, providing technical guidance and optimizing workflows for efficient product development. The person will also be interacting with Project Management department on a daily basis. Key Responsibilities Support the Head of Hardware by monitoring the progress of engineering activities and identifying potential bottlenecks. Schedule and allocate team members to tasks based on their expertise, workload, and project needs. Ensure that product development decisions balance quality, cost, and development time, aligning with company priorities. Coordinate a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers, providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced professionals. Assist in defining project scopes, timelines, and deliverables, keeping development aligned with company goals. Facilitate technical discussions and trade-off analyses to make informed engineering decisions. Collaborate with software, electronics, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and naval systems. Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with industry standards and classification society requirements. Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation to ensure designs meet performance expectations. Work closely with suppliers and external partners to ensure timely procurement and implementation of key components. Identify and mitigate risks associated with new product development. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or Production Engineering. 5+ years of experience in product development, preferably in the marine or robotics industry. Strong knowledge of mechanical design, hydrodynamics, materials, and structural analysis. Experience managing engineering projects and tracking development progress. Ability to balance technical trade-offs between quality, cost, and time. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD). Familiarity with classification society rules (e.g., Lloyd’s Register, ABS, DNV) is preferred. Strong communication and organizational skills to effectively coordinate a team. Preferred Qualifications Experience with autonomous systems, marine robotics, or offshore engineering. Knowledge of control systems, sensors, and marine automation. Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, and testing of marine components. Experience working in a startup or innovation-driven environment.
