Open Call: Itinera Arte International Artist Residency Program — Expanded Field Performance Art, Film, Art, Photography, Others Description Entitled Expanded Field, the 3rd cycle of Itinera Arte's International Artist Residency Program proposes a critical and sensitive investigation into practices that take shape at the intersection of languages, media, and regimes of visibility. The title directly evokes the notion of the "expanded field" formulated by Rosalind Krauss in her seminal essay Sculpture in the Expanded Field (1979), identifying the collapse of traditional categories of sculpture and the emergence of practices operating within an expanded territory. The program welcomes artists whose research challenges stable disciplinary categories, shifting the boundaries between painting, sculpture, photography, performance, video, sound, writing, and other hybrid practices that resist conventional classifications. Artists who wish to use the residency to reinvent their poetics through experimentation with new media and materials are also encouraged to apply. This cycle additionally proposes thinking of the expanded field beyond a strictly linguistic dimension -- articulating it with geographic and symbolic expansion, and investigating how contemporary artistic practices relate to multiple territorialities, questioning notions of belonging, displacement, and borders. 10 artists will be selected. The residency runs from October 5 to November 30, 2026, in downtown Rio de Janeiro, coordinated by curators Thiago Fernandes and João Paulo Ovídio. Each selected artist receives: Studio space in downtown Rio de Janeiro (25 m²), equipped with a work table, in individual or shared format Weekly curatorial guidance with the program's curators Portfolio reviews and critical follow-up on works developed during the residency Conversations with invited curators, artists, and art professionals Studio visits, gallery and institution visits, and engagement with the local art scene Cultural activities in the central region of Rio de Janeiro Institutional promotion through Itinera Arte's communication channels A collective exhibition and open studio at the end of the residency Eligible Locations Global Open to artists internationally. Applicants must be able to communicate in Portuguese or English, and all application materials must be submitted in one of these two languages.
